Chinese herbal medicine is an integral component of the comprehensive healing system known as traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). TCM encompasses various treatments, including acupuncture, massage, dietary advice, moxa, herbal medicine, and more. It has gained more attention as a beneficial medical practice over the last few years, with more studies demonstrating the positive impacts of TCM. The growing interest also highlights the necessity for utilizing a licensed TCM practitioner when seeking treatment.

Traditional Chinese medicine’s principles differ from Western perspectives on health, illness, and bodily functions. Chinese herbal medicine aims to restore equilibrium in the body’s subtle energy, known as qi, which flows through invisible meridians. Studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of TCM  in treating a broad range of disorders, including through the use of herbal formulas.

While TCM is not the same as Western medicine, practitioners must undergo many years of study to be board-certified and licensed. Seeking a professional practitioner is the best way to receive proper treatment and the only way to access KPC herbs.

Herbal Treatment From A Professional

Herbal formulas can have immense health benefits when used correctly. The best way to ensure correct use is to receive a diagnosis and treatment from a licensed TCM practitioner who has studied and trained to provide treatment.

Receiving treatment through a licensed TCM practitioner ensures your safety and the efficacy of treatment. Without proper training, diagnosing and treating a patient with herbal formulas and other treatment methods is difficult and potentially dangerous. Herbal formulas are less likely to be effective and helpful if misused. Herbal formulas given without a correct diagnosis could result in adverse side effects, just as an improper prescription in Western medicine would.

KPC Through Practitioners

KPC herbs are available through various distributors who provide herbs to practitioners. You can only utilize these herbs with a proper diagnosis and prescription from a licensed TCM practitioner. This ensures that KPC herbs are used correctly and provided through a trained and informed source.

When consulting with an herbalist, they will request a comprehensive health history encompassing past and present illnesses. Additionally, they will inquire about any medications taken currently. This step is crucial as certain herbs and drugs may not harmonize well when combined.

It is vital for both an herbalist and a doctor to monitor progress closely. Regular evaluation of liver and kidney function helps proper metabolism of the herbal remedies provided. By maintaining this approach, you can optimize the effectiveness and safety of herbal treatment.

Finding A Licensed TCM Practitioner

The right qualifications and experience matter when choosing a TCM practitioner. Selecting a licensed practitioner of TCM or acupuncturist who can safely and effectively prescribe the right herbal supplements that can enhance overall well-being is imperative.

One of the questions we often receive is about how to use a product since the massage therapist/practitioner/doctor could not properly explain how to use it or what it is meant to do. Our herbal products are entirely based on properly sourced and identified natural raw materials. However, numerous contraindications for various formulas depend on your current condition. If you have been provided TCM products by someone who cannot adequately explain how they are meant to work, they are likely not qualified to prescribe these herbs in the first place.

The highest national certification board for TCM practitioners is the NCCAOM, which is not required to practice in every state. To find a practitioner certified by the NCCAOM, search their directory here.

In order to provide the right herbs tailored to your concerns and body, find a TCM physician or acupuncturist in your state who has an up-to-date license. If looking for someone outside the NCCAOM licensed list, be aware: Each state has its own standards for awarding L.Ac. (Licensed Acupuncturist) licenses, so depending on the state, a licensed acupuncturist may or may not have studied traditional Chinese medicine herbs and herbal formulas. In Oregon, for instance, all L.Ac.s are required to meet the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) standard. This means they will have taken courses to learn about herbs and will have a foundation of knowledge to draw upon when they prescribe herbs. Not all states have a similarly stringent requirement.

Integration

If you are new to TCM, many practices may feel unknown. When working with a practitioner, exploring available TCM therapy options with an open mind, receptive ears, and an open heart is essential. TCM encompasses diverse treatment approaches and embodies distinct worldviews and perspectives on human health. Some treatments may appear different from past experiences but can have significant health benefits when applied correctly.
